At the entrance to Beverly Hills presides 8500 Burton Way, stunning luxury apartment landmark. Eighty-seven meticulously detailed one- and two-bedroom apartments with private balconies and floor-to-ceiling glass are carved into this iconic eight-story tower, set in a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.
The task set by Mr. Caruso was to create a building of timeless beauty, at once contemporary and classic, glamorous and practical, vital and serene.
Hetzel had to work with the bones of a previous art-deco scheme by others, yet completely change the appearance and breathe in the contemporary design zeitgeist.
The building is classical in the sense that it has a well-defined podium, piano nobile and roof line. However, each of these components is treated uniquely – the base frame is upside-down; the upper floors are animated up by seemingly random slab edge curls; the roofline is defined by a sleek surfboard-like awning, featuring an oculus over a sky garden.
This is one of the best performing and most successful mixed used projects in LA, quickly becoming one of LA’s city tours landmark destinations.
